Wrap it Up…

wrapping paper

I’ve never claimed to be good at wrapping gifts, it isn’t a talent of mine and I don’t necessarily aspire to become a gifted wrapper.

(Oh, I’m funny….get it?  “gifted wrapper!” Ha!)

Sorry, I digress. Being someone who doesn’t fancy-up her packages, I always am amazed at people that do. My sister-in-law, for example, is really amazing and creative and her presents should be displayed somewhere unopened because they look so pretty.

I must take after my dad and grandpa in the wrapping category because I think my dad has been using the same roll of newsprint since before I was born, he also uses duct tape. My grandpa once wrapped a gift covered in old Christmas cards taped all over the box for my brother.

This year isn’t any different, but it is the first year that I’ve got wrapping paper that I LOVE. I picked it up at IKEA on my annual ‘back to school’ trip and didn’t know how cool was until a few days ago. It is double sided and it has pink polka dots on it!  Granted, it isn’t at all Christmasy (is that a word?) but I’m still using it.

Maybe I will be a gifted wrapper after all of this. Brew-ha-ha!!

Gifted wrapper.

Can You Smell It?

vacation

Winter Vacation is hours away. We don’t have a whole lot planned, but just knowing that we’ve got some time off is really, really exciting. What to do? Paint the baby’s room? Clean the gutters? Visit friends and family? Bake? Sit on the couch and eat BonBons?

It all sounds so exciting!

In the mean time, I’m going to work today and my students will be enjoying a very festive, busy Friday. We’ll be attempting wrap their gifts that they made for their families. I figure parents would appreciate gifts that were made 100%  by their kiddos. I’m guessing that I’ll come home covered in tape.

We’re also decorating gingerbread houses, but I don’t have the heart to write about it here…..my houses always, always look like they are in the ghetto ~ all broken, damaged and hardly holding up.  My solution is to give the kids lots of frosting and candy to cover up the cracked walls and crumbling state of their real estate.

So, as the time clicks away today I’ll be sniffing to see how close Winter Vacation is and how good it smells. Better than any batch of cookies.

Zzzzzzzz

This weekend we went up to Camp Janet for the day and Sydney weaseled her way into staying for the week. I guess I don’t feel too bad because I know that she’s sprawled out by the fire chewing on her favorite bone or playing with Sparky. If she were here, she’d most likely be doing a bit more of this:
