Hi-Ho It’s Off to Glacier We Go!

We survived Thanksgiving through the exploding Pyrex dish, broken pipe, piles of snow and the power going out. We were thankful for some very basic things. It was an eventful day, but more on that later.

On Friday we went up to Glacier to surprise Tyler for his birthday. He turned the big 3-0 and, although we weren’t there for the surprise part, he had no idea that we were all meeting up to celebrate him! Joey did a fantastic job coordinating.

Barry and the boys got to dote upon Maggie and the following sequence of pictures is really funny. Keep your eye out for a chubby Pug:

I like the fact that Sydney saw her moment to shine and she moved on in, plus Bahl obviously thinks it is a-okay because he decided to give the two thumbs up.

But Jeff is kind of like that – a two thumbs up type of guy. He ran into Tyler at a gas station randomly shortly before Tyler was to arrive at the cabin to be surprised. Bahl hatched a little white-lie to keep the surprise from being discovered. Two thumbs up, right?  Bahl give two thumbs up to the Huskies, funny pictures, and his sweet, sweet girlfriend, Allison, who was with her family and not at the cabin.

Eventually Maggie started to suggest that it was time to go by yelling in Joe’s face. Thankfully he has to nephews and so he was able to tolerate her screaming. Joe and Claire (not pictured, sadly) are getting hitched in a few weeks and Barry is in their wedding. Claire was wondering if the bridal party should do a fun dance at the wedding. Barry is a mover and a shaker, so I volunteered that he would love, love, love to do a fun dance. I may have gotten dagger eyed from Barry, but I survived.

We left the cabin and headed to the Miller/Rhone compound for a good night’s rest….so great to see some of our very favorite people*.

*Kurbbie, we missed you.

Thanksgiving Preview

Remember last year? We found out that we were having a girl because we’d made a cake as a way to reveal to everybody what we were having. Well, this year things are different. We’re still at Camp Janet, but Maggie is here and we’re taking a billion photos of her, we’ve got piles of snow, the turkey is in the oven…..and……well,

a pipe burst this morning. We don’t have running water. I’ve only accidently turned the water on twice so far, but my poor, poor dad is trying to fix the problem.

Barry and I walked out to get the paper – a winding walk on the country road with the dogs in tow. There were no other tracks except for ours and it chilly. Maggie stayed with my mom by the toasty fire and helped keep an eye on the smelly foods and all things Thanksgiving.

We’ll see where things are in the next few hours, but so far this is a pretty exciting Thanksgiving Day.

As if I’m really doing anything to help this whole situation…..blogging helps, right?

Maybe She Loves the Jacket

Is it too early to suggest that Maggie might be a Papa’s girl? Without a doubt, she adores him and it is the sweetest thing. I think that she would have tried to walk to work with him this morning – smiling the whole way, of course. Instead she posed for a picture in her jammies, still smiling from cheek to cheek.

Check out Barry’s coat in the above photo. I absolutely lived in that coat last year and I am so thankful to be back in my own winter coats this year. That brown coat reminds me of being pregnant/huge and walking my students out to the buses at the end of the school day. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had difficulty zipping it up over my belly, so I was thankful when Spring arrived.

So much has changed in a year. Barry has his coat back now, and we’ve got a smiling, chubby baby in exchange.

So worth it.

I mean, look at that lil’ grin.

Barry’s grin is pretty stinkin’ cute too.
