Almost Snowed In

Maggie and I headed up to Anacortes yesterday to spend the day with my mom because her schedule opened up. Plus, we had some other people we wanted to see too. As we fell asleep last night there were a few flakes of snow falling from the sky, but when we woke up there was a heavy blanket covering all that we could see.

We were not prepared for the buckets of snow that arrived at my parent’s door, but luckily they had us covered and I was able to rock some snow pants from 1970. We spent the morning walking out to get the paper with the dogs zig zagging between us and walking in the 8 inches of billowy white. After obsessing over what Mother Nature was going to do next,  I opted to attempt to get home before everything froze and we’d become permanent fixtures at Camp Janet.

Although I’m certain that my parents would have loved to have us logging some hours around their toasty wood stove, it was nice to safely arrive home this afternoon. Plus, I missed Barry and he missed us. Maggie had a MAJOR party when she saw him, it was all sorts of cute.

Tomorrow when we wake up to another blanket of white, I’ll be a bit sad that my dad doesn’t get to go get Maggie when she wakes up and carry her downstairs full of bed-head or that my mom doesn’t get to practice playing the piano with Mags on her lap. Maybe I’ll feel a tinge of sadness because I’m like that, a bit nostalgic, but then I’ll remember that I’m home, sweet, home!!

Maggie,

Hooray! Ten months! Looking at your pictures from your monthly photos it is very, very apparent that you are growing, growing, growing! I hardly remember your baldy time around 4 months, but by the looks of it you hardly had any hair!

As with every month, this one was full of new experiences and new achievements. You have almost 8 teeth, we’re waiting for one to bust through on the bottom, but you have some nice chompers to use. You’ve also learned to kiss this month, which is fitting because we celebrated your first Valentine’s Day. Your version of  kiss is a sloppy, wet one. We’re working on it.

You babble all the time and we babble back, you have very clear sounds for certain words. For example you have a almost breathy version of “Papa” that you like to whisper, almost as if you’re practicing, but you’ll holler “Mama” if I’m not responding quick enough of if someone else is tending to you. You also say ‘hi’ or at least have a sound that is your version and I’ve heard ‘bye’ a few times as well. Talk, talk, talk, babble, babble, babble.

You’ve become more of a bookworm too. We’ve got baskets of your book nearly in every room around the house and you often sit quietly and turn the pages on your own. Every single time I see you reading to yourself, I am amazed at how interested you are. You’ve also started pointing at the pages, something I’ve been doing and you finally caught on. Yahoo!! Grammy and 3G swear that you moo when you see the cow on the farm book, which doesn’t really surprise me because we read that book constantly.

Tonight you crawled over to Papa, stood up and grabbed is index finger and made him walk around with you. It was the first time that I’ve seen you take the initiative and go for a walk. We’ve been working with you to walk one-handed because you don’t really need our support anymore, but you like to be careful….

Sydney has discovered that you are a gateway to delicious snacks and treats, so I think that she tolerates you a bit more, but each night you still steal her bone. You also discovered her crate and if she is in there relaxing, you butt  your little head and try to join the party. She is the most tolerant dog I’ve ever met, but if you keep giving her snacks, I think it’ll all work out just fine.

We went to Leavenworth to celebrate my birthday, had a few dinners at 3G’s and saw most of your grandparents, a ton of your friends (Gracie, Thomas, & Caroline) and our friends this month…we were busy! We also went swimming at the YMCA, to Baby Story Time at the Library and around Green Lake. Phew!

We love you!

Mom

Me Sit Pretty

We’ve had a little situation going on with the chair in our office/guest room for a few years now and we finally got enough steam to get a movin’ on the whole project. It was actually pretty easy and we’re super pleased with the results.

From start to finish the project took a few hours of our time,a tiny bit of money and a trip to the fabric store. Oh, and we had to go to Ace Hardware also, but we kind of like to check in on those guys from time to time anyhow.

Maggie was very interested in the power tools and was helpful to a certain degree. Barry worked to pull out all the staples so that we could update the cushion and make it more of a comfortable place to sit.

I worked to make the straps a bit more snug. I must admit, I LOVE our new staple gun and if you need anything stapled, call me. I’ll show up with our new stapler because it is very, very powerful. Barry must really love me because he let me do all the stapling and I was happy as a little clam.

Barry and Maggie inspected the new shape I cut out of foam. Turns out I did a pretty good job, they approved.

We also added some batting, but didn’t take a picture of that step. We did, however, get a picture of the tug-and-staple dance that we got to do for the final step. I was a bit staple happy and Barry kept saying “whoa, whoa!’

Again, Maggie checked and showed her approval. The cushion is WAY more comfortable than the other one that was flat as the pumpkin pancakes we had for breakfast in Leavenworth.

Comparing the two, it is obvious how in need we were of a change. What in the world took us so long?

Wayyyyyyy better.

And just in case you were worried about what Maggie was doing while we were making our chair beautiful….well, the above picture about captures it. More on that later. Maybe.
