We’re off to Ferndale to go to Barry’s cousin’s wedding, but I just had to share this picture of Maggie and her BFF Thomas.

Thomas came to visit because he likes riding in the car.

The same can’t be said for my daughter.

Oh, well.

Happy weekend!!

I have finally made my way back to the pool a few times this week and it feels like my body agrees with the routine of swimming laps again, although I’m much less buoyant than I was a few months ago.

I came home the other morning, after swimming, only to discover Barry with Maggie in his arms and Sydney requesting some lap time. They looked so much at ease. It was difficult to see how Barry was going to get up because both Syd and Maggie looked pretty comfortable.

When he finally did make his move away from the sleeping duo,  he commented that he’s just a glorified pillow these days. I can’t say that I feel much different.

Wouldn’t change it for the world, however.

Carter and Suz came over to my parent’s house while we were in Anacortes and my mom pulled out some of toys.

Carter spent some of of the time with Izak’s old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle motorcycle.

After a careful inspection, it was road-ready and Carter made sure he got some miles on the tires.

He takes motorcycle riding very seriously, as you can tell.

1. My dad and grandpa both have the same name – my dad stole my grandpa’s nickname when he was in first grade.

2. I didn’t ask them to stand like this when I took the picture, but I like how they are both looking at the camera.

3. They are handy: my dad carries a Leatherman and my grandpa carries a Swiss Army Knife.

4. My grandpa is very, very funny, but has a serious compassionate side to him. He is a great man.

5. My dad is very, very smart. He has a library of his own books that is the same size of our guestroom. He too is a great man.

6. My grandpa likes to wear collared shirts. My dad likes to wear T-Shirts.

7. My dad drives a truck he calles The Truck of the Future. My grandpa drives a car that is WAYYYY newer than my dad’s truck.

8. I never really thought they looked alike until I saw these pictures.

My Grandma has at least 23 nieces and nephews and many of them made their way  with their families from around the country to help celebrate her 80th birthday. There are some true characters in our family and after this weekend I wish that some of them lived closer.

Tummy Time always starts with a happy, happy baby. She loves to roll around on the ground and make eyes at anyone and everyone.

Next comes the poking of the eyes grabbing of nearby longer hair.

Eventually Maggie shows me how to make my eyes SO big. It is quite challenging. She’s quite talented in the area of Big Eyes.

Then we pose for one last shot before……

TUMMY TIIME!!!!

She hates it, which means we hate it, but we do it again and again.

I should also point out that I’m only logging “leg powered” miles if they’re done in place of driving. For example, I went on a ride to Everett the other day just to get out in the sunny weather. I didn’t count that trip, because I wouldn’t have driven to Everett just for fun <insert joke about the city here>.

Hannah doesn’t agree with this tracking method, but I don’t want to start going on “carbon credit” rides/walks/runs just to catch up to my miles driven allotment.  I’d rather focus on reducing the number of solo trips I take in the car.

I did a lot of driving by myself this month.  Part of it was because our new bundle of joy takes a good amount of preparing before a car trip, and it’s much easier to do several quick solo trips to the store instead of everyone going together on one longer trip.  Part of it was training and participating in Ski to Sea (hopefully,  I’ll have some video of my stage of the race up soon), and a big chunk came on an unexpected trip home from Anacortes to Edmonds.

Driving: 159.8 miles

Riding: 12 miles
Walking: 51 miles

Leg Powered: 63 miles

Driving: 693.3 miles

Leg Powered: 752.7 miles
