Spring Break

March27

Ahhhhhhh………Spring Break 2010 has commenced and boy, I am ready for it. I don’t have much planned – except that I could have a baby. I don’t think that I will, but I could.

Instead I’m going on a mini vacation with Barry and Sydney to the big, crazy town of Port Townsend (Wahoo!)

I’m also going to A-Town to hang out at Camp Janet.

I bet I’ll find myself baking, cooking and  swimming.

I’ll probably do some rearranging around HBHQ as well, since that is what pregnant people, that could have a baby over their Spring Break, do.

8 o’clock

March25

I kid you not, we went to bed last night at 8 o’clock.

It was just that kind of day.

People joke that not being able to sleep is Mother Nature’s way of preparing us for having a baby.

I say we need our sleep now.

So, we went to bed at 8 o’clock and snoozed the night through.

Don’t judge, we woke up rested.

Did you?

Kennedy Hot Springs Hike, 2003

Things to know:

1. We’d been anticipating Spring and decided to hike to Kennedy Hot Springs – although it was only March.

2. We were so intent on reaching the final destination it didn’t cross our minds to turn around when the road was closed and we passed people wearing snow shoes.

3. The snow was above our knees and we kept on hiking, I was wearing jeans.

4. At one point Barry fell off a bridge trying to rescue me and I thought I lost him in a snow drift.

5. We camped in the middle of a snow field with gear that was not meant to be used in snowy weather.

6. The hot springs were not that hot, but worth it.

Birthday Picture Clue

February10

In one week I’ll be turning 30.

30!!!

Do you hear that? My belly isn’t the only big thing happening around here, I’ll be rolling into a new decade within the week.

Barry, being one in this relationship who actually can keep a secret, has only given me a few clues as to where we are headed for a few days this weekend.

Here is what I know:

  • We can get there within 2-3 hours from HBHQ.
  • It is South of HBHQ
  • No dogs are allowed at the place where we are staying. (Syd goes to Camp Janet)
  • Barry is bringing his kayak.
  • It is a small town.
  • We’ve never been there before – or at least he’s never been there and he doesn’t think I’ve been there.
  • We’ve never talked about it.
  • We’ll be able to make our own food.
  • The above picture was e-mailed to me today. Apparently, it is from the kitchen window of where we are staying.

30.

In one week, but the celebration starts this weekend!!

More clues to come…I hope.

Gross Spud

January20

SATURDAY EVENING @ GROCERY STORE

Me: I don’t know what to get for a snack. NOTHING looks good. [Poor, poor me]

Barry: Just get the Idaho Spud. [As if it were the most logical choice]

Me: Yeah, I think the Spud is the way to go. Look, this is the candy bar that made Idaho famous.  [Is Idaho really famous?]

WEDNESDAY MORNING

Barry: When are you going to eat your Spud?

Me: Hands off the Spud! I’ll eat it when I’m ready.  [I proceed to worry about my Spud all day at work while Barry works from home. Spud survives the work day.]

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

Me: Spud is a dud. So gross. [Such a let down]

Barry: Oh, you are right, that is not good.

Moral of the story: Stay away from the Spud that made Idaho famous.

5 Things

January10

1. This is a picture of our Australian home. Seriously, we lived in a car for a few months.

2. As you can see, I’m busy working in the “kitchen” getting dinner ready.

3. Please note the bottles of wine on top of the car. We bought a case of wine and kept a list of where we were each time we had a bottle. These bottles went down on the list as “The Town of 1770,” the name of the nearest town.

4. We walked into The Town of 1770  and passed at least 200 dead frogs on the road.  Barry made me stop counting.

5. Looking at this photo reminds me that happiness can be found anywhere – even in the back of a car with dead frogs stuck to the tires.

The alarm went off far too early this morning, but we found ourselves bundled and out the door by 5:45. We’re usually silent the first few hundred yards of the walk, letting the rain wash the sleep from our eyes.

Eventually the silence turns into sporadic conversation about our day, the Tubby Torpedo, the weather, our dreams, or whatever else seems suitable during the dark, wet morning stroll. It is very rare that we see another person out walking their dog, every so often we see an old lady and her ancient pup, but for the most part the streets and trails are our own.

We say we do it for Sydney – that she needs the movement – and this is true; however, I secretly enjoy spending the time with Barry while the world is still slumbering.
