Suddenly They Were Gone

pre pregnancy ankles

Dear Ankles,

I didn’t know how much I loved you until I woke up a couple days ago and realized that you’d up and left. Not only that, but you left somebody else’s feet. The chubby toes and swollen ankles don’t belong to me. Swollen ankles is not a good look for anyone, no matter which way you cut it – enormously pregnant or not.

Do you have plans to return and take shape at the bottom of my body again or have you left me with these cankles forever? Rumor has it that pregnant women leave pregnancy with bigger feet, but is this true with ankles? Oh, I hope not. Come back!!

I’ll swoon over  you upon your return and show you off to anyone who is willing to listen, just don’t leave me with these water retaining things that are a poor replacement for your shape!

Love,

Hannah

Smooch

I have red hair, but I also have skin that gets kissed by the sun.

It is more of an orange kiss, rather than a browning of the skin.

Valentine’s Day is coming – wouldn’t a kiss from Mr. Sun be nice?

Yesterday I got to stand in the sun for a moment and my skin danced with joy.

I miss the sun.

Photo of my leg with Debbie’s, a fellow redhead.

Her skin does not allow for any kisses from the sun.

Sad.

Getting Outside

Each month I like to have a formal reading of all the possible symptoms that might accompany pregnancy and typically my audience includes Barry, Brian, and Sydney. Last month Brian wasn’t around so I had to give him the cliff notes at Christmas. I think he really appreciated it – who wouldn’t, right?

As I merge into the last stretch of being pregnant I’ve noticed that my belly seems to expand overnight – at an alarming rate. Just the other day I was getting a coat out of the coat closet and opened the door and it abruptly stopped because it had run into my belly. I’ve since adopted a new way to open the closet door.

I’ve also announced to my students that I no longer am accepting their offers to me to bend down and tie their shoes. I spend much of my day crouched by their little desks and bending to get most of the way down to their laces, well, doesn’t sound appealing. Especially since I’ve recently realized how many shoes a day I once tied.

Still, at the start of this third trimester I feel superb.

No longer bending, but  at least I’m not waddling – yet.
